Redmi Note 13 5G Build quality, Design
The Redmi Note 13 5G is a phone that aims to provide 5G connectivity along with a solid enough smartphone experience on a budget. It’s largely a similar device to last year’s Redmi Note 12, but you do get a different chipset and a higher resolution main camera.
The Redmi 13 5G has a flat plastic back panel with a metallic matte finish, a rectangular island-shaped camera module on the back, and a sharp edge where the back meets the frame, which is also plastic. Overall, the phone is quite pleasant to touch with a nice grip, and there is IP54-rated protection for dust and splashes and slightly improved waterproofing over last year’s IP53.
Redmi Note 13 5G Display, Speakers
The phone’s display is fairly competitive, as you get a 120Hz 10bit AMOLED display. It is not 12 bit like its Pro models, but it is still a nice full HD screen with vibrant colours, inky blacks, and great contrast. The outdoor visibility is also pretty good with thousands of nits of max brightness, and thankfully this model is not trying to over sharp visuals on YouTube as it is with the Xiaomi Note 13 Pro and Pro Plus. So watching movies, shows, and anime is a good enough experience on this variant.
Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Review: The top Fan Edition yet
You don’t get stereo speakers in this phone, which looks like a big miss. However, I played a few songs on the Redmi Note 13 5G side by side with the Poco X6, which comes for a similar price, and found the Poco doing a much better job. Not only is there good stereo separation, but the audio is louder and fuller on it, and hence listening to songs and watching movies is a better experience on the Poco X6 than on the Redmi Note 13 5G.
Redmi Note 13 5G Performance
Coming on the performance side, the Redmi Note 13 5G is packed with the MediaTek Dimensity 680 chipset, which basically is a rebranded Dimensity 810, but still, it is a good enough improvement upon the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 that we had on the Redmi Note 12 5G. You get very stable 40 and 60 fps in games like PUBG and Call of Duty, and I didn’t notice much heating or throttling during gameplay either. Only in intense games like Genshin Impact and Macaroni, the overall stability was not very good here, and the phone got slightly hotter while playing those games, but the overall gaming side of the Xiaomi Note 13 5G is good enough for the price.
Redmi Note 13 5G Camera, Battery
The phone gets an upgraded main camera from last year’s Note 12 5G with a 108MP sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 2M macro sensor. You get good enough details in the images; dynamic range management, highlight preservation, colour reproduction, etc. are very average. overall The cameras are better than the Poco X6 that produces dark and inconsistent images. However, the Note 13 images are not very colour balanced.
During the nighttime, the phone is able to shoot bright images thanks to the larger sensor; the details are good enough, and the overall quality is not bad. The ultrawide images have quite a bit of a colour difference with the main primary camera, along with having SOF bar details. The videography side is also average results, and in terms of resolution, the max you can get is 1080p at 60fps, and while you are shooting still videos, the results are not too bad, but once you are in motion, the videos lack any kind of stabilisation.
With the 5000mAh battery capacity in the Xiaomi Note 5G, you can easily call it a full-day battery phone. The battery life is pretty good. I was getting around 6 to 7 hours of screen time. Moreover, if you scroll through Instagram and stream videos on YouTube, you also get a good time of battery backup, and with 33W charging support, which takes 30 minutes to charge 60% and 1 hour for full charge.
Verdict
So if you are looking for a balanced mid-range phone under 20,000 in India, then the Xiaomi Note 13 5G is one of the good options. It definitely misses out on a few aspects, but it does get a lot of stuff right, like the design, battery life, and processor. However, you can get many other good options in this price range too.
