Honor Magic V3 Review: Thinnest Folding Phone Ever

Honor Magic V3 is the world’s newest, thinnest, and lightest foldable smartphone. It was launched on 19th July. The phone is 3.5 mm thin, which means it is thinner than many other foldable devices, and 9.2 mm after folding the device. Whereas the phone offers more excellent features as well, like an impressive display and a good camera, and is packed with a good chipset and software too. After using the phone for over 2 weeks, we try to give you the real review about the phone.

Honor Magic V3 Design and Display

The Honour Magic V3 design looks very nice and premium as it is 4.4mm thick when open and 4.4mm after folded, which makes this phone a thin folded device compared to other foldable devices, and it weighs 225 g, which makes it a light-weight smartphone over the other foldable phones, and it has the dynamic island, which shows what you are listening, and it has an IPX8 water resistance rating.

On the back, you get trendy colour options such as velvet black, snow, tundra green, and ed. All of these colors give it a premium feel, and it has a matte glass back, glossy metal hinge, and side edges. The phone has an octagonal camera module in the center of the back, which looks good, but the bumpy camera setup does not balance well on a flat surface.

Comes to the display The Honor Magic V3 has a 7.9-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 2156 x 2344 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+ videoplay, and 1800 nits of peak brightness. On the other side, it offers a 6.4-inch LTPO OLED cover display with 1060 x 2376 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh, a peak brightness of 5000 nits, and also supports dobly vision.

Meanwhile, the display refresh rate goes up to 120 Hz, but it drops when you enable battery saver mode to save battery life. However, the content you watch on the phone comes out sharp and pleasant with HDR10+ support. Also, the gaming or watching videos on the inner screen is much dimmer outside on a sunny day, which can create problems.

Honor Magic V3 Performance and OS

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm SM8650-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (4 nm) chipset coupled with an Octa-core CPU and Adreno 750 GPU. Overall, the chipset handles all the tasks very well, and especially it comes with 12 gigs of RAM, and it comes with storage options of 256, 512, and 1 TB, which is exactly what you need for a foldable phone, especially when you plan on using it to store a lot of downloaded content. On the other hand, it performs well in popular games like Genshin Impact, delivering a smooth experience.

Meanwhile, the phone runs on Android 14, and on top of that, you get Honour Magic OS 8.0.1. It takes too much time to go through the settings to turn this on, and it does not have a simple process as it has a tonne of bloatware. However, it also offers some excellent AI features.

Honor Magic V3 Camera and Battery

The Honor Magic V3 features a triple rear camera setup, a 50MP main camera with PDAF and OIS support, a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom, PDAF and OIS support, and a 40M ultrawide lens with AF. Overall, it takes quite impressive photos because it has excellent color accuracy between the lenses, and they all look pretty identical. The photos it produces are bright, vibrant, and capture really nice details, especially when you use 3.5x optical zoom.

In terms of battery, it features a 5,150mAh battery capacity, and it sounds great but is not good in reality as the battery is made up of silicon, which Honour says is an industry first, but it does not work as you would expect. However, if you use social media or take pictures, the battery will last for a day easily and you don’t need to recharge it, and if you use it for multitasking like gaming, the battery percentage will decrease quickly, while it offers impressive 66W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

Verdict

Overall, the Honour Magic V3 is the thinnest foldable device with really impressive hardware. It’s thin, it has a good IP rating, wireless charging support, and the cameras are quite impressive, and the price is a little bit high compared to other foldable devices. whereas the phone is best except the battery performance and software.
